Clay "book" 6x15x13"

One of the parameters I had set for this residency was that I would only take source material from the site. In the small reading area at Watershed I found a book that contained an essay by Ruth Moore called "The Record in the Rocks." I used the following passage as inspiration:

"The fossils buried in the rocks were in one sense time clocks. They also spoke of the order of the past. As long as there was no disturbance, the oldest strata and the oldest shells lay at the bottom of any series. The younger sediments and the younger fossils had been deposited on top of the older. If the strata were in their natural order, the order was as clearly visible as that of a stack of books."
